Joan Litzkow

Assistant Director

Joan Litzkow is a retired teacher from the Everett School District. She has been in Education for 40 years.  She graduated from Michigan State University with her bachelor’s degree and from the City University of Seattle with her master’s in educational technology.  During her teaching career, Ms. Joan taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 5th Grades.  She also served as a Special Education teacher and Teacher-librarian.  She worked with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to write the 5th-grade science questions for state testing.  In 2011, she was honored to be the Everett School District Teacher of the Year and received additional awards for teaching excellence from the Washington State Association for Curriculum and Instruction and the Woodside PTSA.  Ms. Joan feels that all her years of teaching and volunteering with children have led to her true calling, as the Assistant Director at Rise Up Academy. She is excited to be an integral part of Rise Up Academy for years to come She is married to Mark, who volunteers with the STEAM and Chess program at the school, and she has 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren.
